Who Needs to Submit Form W-9?
You are required to submit Form W-9 if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
- You are a US Citizen or US Resident Alien
- You have a US Taxpayer ID (SSN or EIN)
- You receive income from a business or platform
Common Situations
- US Freelancers earning over $600/year from a client
- US Sellers on platforms like Etsy, Amazon, or eBay
- Contractors being hired by a US company
- Opening a US bank account that pays interest
Note for Entities: US Partnerships, Corporations, LLCs, and Estates/Trusts must also use Form W-9 (not W-8BEN).
